Hey Reader, 2024 has pushed me in ways I could never have imagined, waaaay outside my comfort zone and firmly into the zone of “Where the heck am I now?” 🌱 The Journey of Writing My First Book – I’ll admit it wasn’t all glamour. There were plenty of early mornings, late nights and moments of self-doubt- “Who was this little girl who came from nothing- to be writing a book? What can I possibly have to say that is worth listening to?” I leaned heavily into the discomfort of this, and like my old dad used to say ‘I’m like a dug wae a bone.’ Or, for those of you not from Scotland- I’m like a dog with a bone- persistent! There were also moments of pure magic when the words flowed, and I felt that deep sense of purpose in my writing. With each page, I realized just how much I had to share. It remains to be seen how it will fare out in the wide world when it comes out in spring next year. But I know that I gave everything I had to it, and I trust that it will be seen by those who need it. You can read the first two chapters for free here: You need to scroll to the bottom of the page to get them, but it's worth it! 🍃 Leaving the Home Where I Had My Baby – This year marked the end of an era as I left the home where I birthed my youngest child. The house was more than just walls and rooms; it was a place of growth, love, and many firsts. A place where I came home to myself after years of disconnection. Working in the garden and walking the fields saw me picking up pieces of myself I never knew I had lost and lovingly placing them back where they belonged. 🌸 Urban Foraging and New Adventures – The biggest change for me this year was becoming an urban herbalist. After years of gathering herbs in my countryside garden, I’m now finding my plant friends in town parks and sidewalks. It's a different kind of adventure involving seeking out plants between bustling streets and crowded shops. For me, there’s something magical about discovering nature in the least expected places, like the tiny chickweed sprouting by the bus stop or the dandelion breaking through a crack in the sidewalk. It’s proof that nature is resilient—and it can thrive anywhere. And that our urban spaces require our respect and reverence for Mother Earth is still in these spaces- and perhaps they need our love and attention even more than the rural areas. 😂 The Hilarious Chaos of 2024 – I won’t lie—there were some moments of utter chaos, too. Being a mum to young boys and a full-time business owner brings its own sets of challenges. Like having our removal van packed full, ready for the journey, only for the entire back axle to fall off of the truck. Or the time I killed my new computer by dropping a full glass of water over it. Despite the chaos, 2024 has been a year of incredible lessons and blessings. As I look toward 2025, I’m excited for the new adventures, lessons, and plant allies that await. And I can’t wait to share more stories with you. Next year, we will see some new offerings: Seasonal herbalism, an introductory course on plant spirit herbalism, and deeper dives into magical herbalism practices. Keep your eye on your inboxes early in 2025 for more information. Is there anything you want to see that I haven’t offered yet? …A course on a particular subject? …..A community space where we can gather and talk about Plant Spirit Herbalism? Hit reply and let me know. I do this because of folks like you, and I love hearing your replies. So, until 2025, enjoy the last of 2024, and I'll see you next year! Wendy |
